Purpose: Myeloperoxidase (MPO) is a glycoprotein released by activated polymorphonuclear neutrophils. MPO has a role in pathogenesis of atherosclerosis and inflammatory mechanisms. Inflammatory play an important role in the risk of stroke. The aim of the study was to evaluate of MPO plasma levels within 7 days of ischemic stroke. Material and method: The study included 41 patients with acute ischemic stroke, 18 females and 23 males. 30 healthy people, 13 females and 17 males. The size level is determined by cerebral CTscan, serious evaluation of the Glasgow scale. Determine plasma MPO level in acute ischemic stroke. Finding the relation between the plasma MPO - level Glasgow scale –size brain damage. Results: Mean plasma MPO level was in patients with acute ischemic stroke 145.44±144.7 (pmol/l). Mean plasma MPO level was in controls 46.33±12.31 (pmol/l). Correlation between MPO levels and severity of cerebral infarction with the Glasgow scale, r = -0.510, p<0.001 and y = -25.57x + 486.0. Positive correlation between the concentration degree both MPO and lesion size on cerebral CTscan with r = 0.415, p = 0.007 and y = 19.03 x + 77.16. Conclusion: Plasma MPO levels were statistically significative higher in patients after ischemic stroke as compared to control. Determination of the severity of acute ischemic Stroke based on level increasing plasma MPO.
